Kittens are still on bed rest. Which is to say, they’re still primarily lying around on the couch in the office. But at 6:00 AM, it was Sippy who was up early to say, “Mama, I’m feeling peckish. Where is my kibble?” So I gave them their normal kibble breakfast and they ate it all up. I think Flanny is starting to feel her incision a bit, because she’s being a lot more careful about where she goes and how she sits and lies down. Stitches still look good.

Convalescent Kitten Update

9:00 PM: Okay, now Sippy is maybe milking it. She ate almost a whole serving of gushy food. From the spoon. But instead of just lying there and eating it when I brought it to her mouth, several times she raised her head impatiently, as though to say, “I’m waiting!”

5:30 PM Update: Flanny was up and ready for dinner. Sippy was still in bed, but at least was awake and looked at me. At lunch, she didn’t even do that. She wouldn’t get out of bed, but she drank another 4 cc of chicken juice, and ate 6 whole pieces of gushy food. Of course, I had to serve it to her, one little morsel at a time on the end of a spoon held at just the right angle, but she ate it. Perhaps a little more later.

Noon Update: Everyone is enjoying the main privilege of being sickish: being fed in bed by Mama. Flanny seems to be improving already but Sippy seems downright ill. She seems a tad warmer than usual and all she would take for lunch was chicken-flavored water, delivered by syringe.

At first, Sippy was all, “No, Mama, I’m not hungry or thirsty,” but I petted her nose which seemed awfully dry, so I mixed her up some watered down gushy food sauce, which she was willing to sip out of an old syringe. I got about 4 cc down her, which I hope is enough to keep her properly hydrated until she’s willing to eat and drink on her own. I think it’s that last night with the anesthesia she felt pretty good. Now that the anesthesia has worn off, I’m guessing she’s a little tired and sore from the whole experience. Flanny on the other hand, nothing can keep her from eating.

Oh! Which reminds me: I’m doing better on the cats’ diets than on my own. The last time the girls were in to the vet, Flanny weighed 12.8 lbs!! And Sippy was down to 8.9 lbs. That’s really too low, and you could tell, because she was so bony.

After a whole year of wrangling their various eating habits, I’m pleased to report that Flanny is down to 11.2 lbs. Sippy is up to a whopping 9.4 lbs, but I’m concerned that she’ll lose that ground if she doesn’t return to eating in the next day or so.

New Adventures in Smut

Okay, my people, today is a fun day. My friends, who go by the pen names Inara LaVey and Kilt Kilpatrick, write erotica for Ravenous Romance. A while back, she asked me to write a short story for an anthology of incubus and succubus erotica. So I did. Hey, anytime someone wants to pay me money to write, I’m willing to give it a go.

So, today is release day. Yes, my first ever published smut short story is available in the anthology Demon Lovers. It’s called Roadside Assistance, under the name Red Hanner. It plays upon my old theory about the Armageddon Fuck™. The anthology is available for purchase as an e-book here.

Flanny recovers from her surgery by baking herself on the heating vent. The vet says it looked like just a fatty cyst. Pending biopsy results, nothing to worry about.
